Through an official statement dated 3rd March 2026, they noted that with serious concern, the rising copyright infringement of the deceased’s songs, mainly on social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok.
While they appreciated that many Ugandans enjoyed and celebrated Paul Kafeero’s legacy and contribution in the industry, they noted that some individuals had gone beyond by reworking and altering original songs, using the same tunes for political and abusive messages, and commercializing and soliciting money from his works without getting consent from the rightful copyright holders.
“Such conduct constitutes a violation of Uganda’s Copyright and Neighboring Rights Laws and amounts to the unlawful creation of derivative works,” read part of the statement.
They revealed that through their lawyers, Bristov Advocates, they would be taking legal action against Kid Dee and Lil Pazo, who they said reworked the song on the same melodies but with different lyrics, which were deemed abusive, political, immoral, and very inconsistent with the original lyrics.
“These have to be brought to boos. No person is permitted to reproduce, adapt, remix, politicize, or commercially exploit the late Kafeero’s works without written authorization from the lawful administrator of the estate,” read the statement.
This comes shortly after Lil Pazo, during the Jazz with Jajja meeting, played the song, which was a replica of the Late Paul Kafeero’s famous Dipo Nazigala, changing the lyrics from hailing the Kabaka of Buganda to President Museveni.
