According to Kigulu North MP Martin Muzaale, who chairs the Kamuli District Roads Committee, Mufumba was detained after multiple failed attempts to explain how the funds were spent. The arrest follows discrepancies between financial reports and the actual progress of government-funded road projects in the district.
Authorities have demanded that the engineer provide a full accounting of how the money was used, warning of further legal action if he fails to comply. In response to the controversy, the Roads Committee has launched a full audit and committed to holding anyone involved accountable.
Public frustration has grown, with residents questioning the lack of transparency and stalled infrastructure projects. The case forms part of wider efforts to curb corruption and improve accountability in local government service delivery across Uganda.
