An attempted robbery at a mobile money outlet in Kitintale, near Access Building, turned deadly on the morning of Thursday, 10th July, 2025 this morning after armed robbers stormed the premises, threatening two agents — Ssebanenya Ibrahim and Kyeyune Rashid — and demanding cash.

The robbers began stuffing money into bags, but the agents managed to escape and raise an alarm, alerting the nearby community. Residents quickly contacted Kitintale Police, who responded swiftly and pursued the suspects as they fled toward Bugolobi.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, one of the suspects, identified as Matovu Farouk, was arrested with the help of the community and is currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station.

Meanwhile, the second suspect attempted to escape, firing shots into the air to scare off pursuing police officers and boda boda riders. However, a UPDF soldier guarding a nearby residence in Bugolobi engaged the suspect and shot him dead.

After securing the scene, police recovered a rifle with two short magazines from the deceased robber. The area was cordoned off as police processed the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

“We are working to determine the exact amount of money stolen and to establish whether there are any other accomplices involved,” Onyango said.

The police have commended the community for their vigilance and cooperation and have urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activity.
