Kampala Gets New Mayor as Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga Defeats Erias Lukwago, Moses Kizito

Renowned politician Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga has been declared the winner in the just-concluded Kampala Mayoral race. 

Ronald Balimwezo was contesting alongside Moses Kizito Nsubuga, Erias Lukwago, Beatrice Mao, Nabilah Naggayi Sempala, Ibrahim Biribwa Sozi, Eddie Bazira Kibalama, and Jothan Yamureebire. 

The voting process attracted significant attention countrywide, attributed to actions of malpractice and violence at several polling stations.  

Despite the challenges, National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Ronald Balimwezo won with 141,220 votes (76.4%), beating his other seven opponents.

He was followed by National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Moses Kizito Nsubuga, with 43,615 votes. Incumbent People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) Erias Lukwago bagged the third position, with 41,915 votes.

Before being elected Kampala Mayor on 23 January 2026, Ronald Balimwezo, Member of Parliament for Nakawa East since 2021.
