Kampala Central: Salim Uhuru calls for unity as he outlines ambitious plans [VIDEO]

Date:

Salim Uhuru, the incumbent mayor of Kampala Central, has called on his rivals to join him in addressing service delivery challenges affecting residents of the Central division. Speaking to Bbeg Media after the NRM declared unopposed for the seat he holds, Uhuru emphasized unity and hard work.

“In the name of Almighty Allah, I extend my sincere gratitude to my residents and supporters for their trust and continued support in choosing me as their flagbearer for the 2026 elections. I promise to keep serving them to improve our area,” Uhuru said.

Uhuru, a businessman-turned-politician, attributed his success to his socialist leadership approach, which unites people regardless of their political views, tribe, background, education level, or social status. This inclusive strategy, he noted, has earned him widespread support.

Addressing the emergence of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a political pressure group, Uhuru stated that while some NRM members have been persuaded to join, he believes “99% of their DNA remains NRM.” He encouraged capable members to contest various leadership positions in 2026 to tackle the challenges facing their communities. Uhuru criticized his former rival, Musoke Serunjogi, accusing him of being a “political prostitute” for frequently switching parties to gain sympathy.

He argued that such actions undermine Serunjogi’s credibility as a career politician. Uhuru reaffirmed his commitment to staying with the NRM until his retirement, unlike his critics and rivals.

He outlined several initiatives, including plans to construct a state-of-the-art office to mark his political legacy. He also revealed that he has secured funding from the Japanese government for a four-classroom block project in Kampala, acquired an ambulance for residentts.

Uhuru clarified that he has not bought the loyalty of his supporters but has instead called on them to collaborate in addressing the division’s challenges, including congestion, pollution, poor waste management, high crime rates, noise pollution, and land grabbing.

Uhuru, who rose from a humble background as a slum resident, expressed pride in leading the city’s NRM leadership for an extended period. He also thanked his supporters for backing his food catering business, where he has excelled in preparing delicious pilau and other foods.
