Kalungu Man Stabbed to death After Dispute With Man that Allegedly Sold hid Dead Father’s Property

Date:

Authorities in Kalungu District are probing a murder case after a domestic dispute between two residents in Birongo Village, Lwabenge Sub-county, escalated into a fatal stabbing.

The victim, 35-year-old Fred Kiguddu, was reportedly killed in a fight with 30-year-old Latif Sseguya on the morning of June 30, 2025. Witnesses say the altercation stemmed from Kiguddu allegedly mocking Sseguya for mismanaging and selling off his late father’s property, which he claimed had left Sseguya dependent on charity. The verbal exchange, which reportedly began the night before at a local bar, turned violent, with Sseguya allegedly stabbing Kiguddu. He is currently on the run.

Local leaders and residents have attributed the tragic incident to increasing drug abuse and poor upbringing among youth. Area councillor Abudallah Lukonge said the deceased had been intoxicated at the time of the attack and often ridiculed Sseguya for living at his mother’s home.

Lwabenge Sub-county chairperson, Mr. David Ssegawa, cited the case as a reflection of broader social issues such as parental neglect and substance abuse, which he said are fuelling crime in the community.

Nationally, police data supports this concern. The 2024 Annual Police Crime Report noted a 2% rise in murder cases across Uganda, with a notable 2% increase in killings by stabbing—from 257 in 2023 to 268 in 2024—underscoring the broader trend of escalating violence linked to social dysfunction.
