RUBAGA, Uganda — Java House, East Africa’s largest coffee chain, has celebrated a significant achievement by opening its 100th store in Rubaga, Kampala. This milestone marks the company’s journey from a single coffee shop in Nairobi in 1999 to a well-known brand across Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda.
The new branch is more than just another store; it is a celebration of customer loyalty, community partnerships, and a consistent commitment to quality. The company deliberately chose Rubaga for this landmark location because of the area’s lively energy, rich cultural heritage, and bustling community life.
The Rubaga location features the company’s “Express” concept, which is designed to meet the needs of people with fast-paced lifestyles. This grab-and-go format, also found in Najjera and Muyenga, caters to individuals seeking a quick but satisfying coffee, lunch, or pastry. According to Ms. Eusila Jepleting, the General Manager of Java House Uganda, this format has been a “game changer” for urban customers, offering the flexibility to serve people on the go without losing the brand’s signature warmth.
The expansion into Rubaga aligns with Java House’s broader five-year vision of improving accessibility for its growing customer base. The company’s regional strategy focuses on investing in local talent and customizing experiences to reflect the culture of each location. The new branch is expected to create jobs and support Ugandan suppliers, contributing meaningfully to the local economy.
In response to changing consumer habits, Java House has also expanded its digital capabilities, including partnerships with delivery platforms and the inclusion of healthier menu options. Ms. Jepleting thanked the brand’s loyal customers, acknowledging that this achievement belongs to them as well. She stated that the journey from humble beginnings to becoming East Africa’s largest coffee chain has been “inspirational”.
