Jacob Omutuuze Shares How Hosting a Gossip Show Poisoned His Professional Reputation

Date:

Media personality turned politician Jacob Omutuuze has revealed that he regrets hosting a gossip show that he says tainted his radio career.

Jacob Omutuuze hosted a ‘Lugambo’ show on Dembe FM every Friday alongside Lwasama and Yasin DJ. The trio gave listeners gossip news about their favorite celebrities, something that he says created a rift between him and those he gossiped about.

He confessed that he had beef with several celebrities, but one that stands out was the friction with the Goodlyfe duo. This worsened when the duo clashed with DJ Shiru’s group, whom Jacob supported so much.

The battle was so intense that, on many occasions, they fought in bars. One morning, when Jacob had dragged one of the members of the Goodlyfe camp to CPS, he met the late Radio, who told him something he would never forget.

Mowzey Radio said that I’m among the people that he wished would die instantly. We were buddies, but we had turned into enemies. He said this in my face because he was one of the realest artists ever; he didn’t pretend and always said what he felt in his heart.

Jacob confessed that the statement haunted him so much, given that he had once been a very close friend of Radio. He immediately considered rebranding his image.

This is when I told my friends I was going to quit the show and was devising a way to leave in the quietest way. They asked me not to, but I had made up my mind to let go. I started doing so. Not long after that, Rwamiti began doing the same show. I knew my time was up because it would become so common in Uganda.

Judging the period that he worked on the program, Jacob revealed that his job hurt so many people and created enmity.

But it was not good. It is one of the worst things, especially for someone who has studied journalism, not to do. Gossip is good because it gets you fame, but it creates enmity with people that you keep hurting. It wasn’t easy, and I regret starting it. It is one of my biggest regrets in life and in my radio career.
