KAMPALA, Uganda — The presence of one of the most recognizable fuel brands in the capital is facing a potential contraction as Vivo Energy Uganda opens a bidding process for two of its landmark Shell service stations.
The move to offload the Shell Clock Tower and Shell South Street sites comes at a time when competition in the retail fuel sector has intensified, raising questions about the future footprint of the Shell brand in the city center. Both properties are being sold on an as-is, where-is basis.
Located at the gateway to the Central Business District on Entebbe Road, Shell Clock Tower occupies 0.26 acres of leasehold land. Its counterpart, Shell South Street, sits on 0.247 acres of freehold land near the Old Taxi Park, historically one of the most high-volume transit areas in the country.
While the sites currently operate as full-service stations with underground storage, pumps and retail shops, Vivo Energy noted that the properties are also positioned for broader commercial redevelopment. This flexibility suggests the land could transition away from the fuel industry entirely.
Prospective buyers are required to submit a 5 percent commitment fee through a 30-day bank guarantee and provide purchase offers exclusive of VAT. The deadline for all sealed bids is set for Monday, March 30, 2026.
Vivo Energy, which distributes Shell-branded products across Africa, stated that it reserves the right to accept or reject any bid. Inspections of the two properties are available by prior appointment at the company offices in the Industrial Area.
