President Yoweri Museveni has revealed plans to double annual funding for the Parish Development Model (PDM) from Shs100 million to Shs200 million per parish, highlighting the program’s growing success in improving household incomes.

He made the announcement during a visit to Bugomolwa Parish in Nkandwa Sub-county, Kyankwanzi District, where he reviewed the program’s progress and engaged with its beneficiaries.

Museveni commended the achievements of Mr. Matovu Patrick, a recipient of PDM support, who used a Shs980,000 loan to start a poultry and coffee farming venture. Matovu allocated Shs600,000 to purchase 40 chicks, Shs100,000 for feed, and another Shs100,000 for shelter materials. Within six months, he sold 10 chickens for Shs450,000 and combined that with Shs400,000 from coffee sales to buy a bull.

Matovu now earns Shs40,000 monthly from egg sales and uses manure to enrich his coffee and banana crops. The president praised him as a model PDM success story and rewarded him with Shs10 million for three dairy cows and Shs9 million to acquire a tuk-tuk for transport.

Additional support was extended to others: the LC1 chairman received Shs6 million for a motorcycle, and every beneficiary present at the meeting was given Shs1 million.

Museveni stressed the importance of putting the funds to good use. “With Shs100 million per parish annually, every household can receive Shs1 million. Over five years, 1,500 households could be supported,” he explained, adding that the funding would be increased after the 2026 elections.

He promoted PDM as a more sustainable alternative to commercial loans, noting that its 6% interest rate over two years is fair and that the funds remain within the community.

The President also promised to address water scarcity by providing water tanks for irrigation, especially during dry spells. He urged communities to report corruption and mismanagement of PDM funds, pledging investigations and accountability.
