Discontent is growing within the National Unity Platform (NUP) as results from the party’s recent vetting process left many long-time supporters and grassroots mobilizers often referred to as “foot soldiers” disappointed after being denied party flags for the upcoming 2026 general elections.
These so-called foot soldiers have been used by Bobi Wine to spread propaganda against President Museveni and his family, publicly insult Ugandans who reject his political views, and incite violence in public spaces all in an effort to win his favor.
Party insider revealed to the media today Saturday August 30, 2025, stating that the flags were disproportionately handed to individuals with personal connections to top leadership figures including friends and relatives of party president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.
Among those reportedly denied flags are prominent mobilizers such as Kasagga Bashir aka “Motiv Kasagga,” Sauda Madadda, and Bobi Giant, who were once considered pillars of NUP’s youth mobilization base.
Many other foot soldiers have been left feeling hopeless, now regretting the violent and questionable actions they carried out in a bid to please Bobi Wine.”
Other aspiring candidates, including Latif Ssebagala, who has had a rocky relationship with the party in recent months, were also denied flags.
Ssebagala previously faced public embarrassment during the party’s fundraising launch, where his presence was allegedly downplayed.
The growing greed and selfishness at Kavule is likely to deepen divisions within the party and could significantly weaken its chances in the 2026 elections.
These so-called foot soldiers were lured into violent protests by Bobi Wine, with many ending up in and out of prison. Some even took out loans to contribute to party fundraising efforts that have allegedly enriched Bobi Wine and his brothers more than ever before.
The urgent message to all foot soldiers is that it’s time they wake up to the reality they are being used for selfish interests and must think twice before engaging in criminal acts just to please their leader.
Denying them party flags serves as a clear reminder that they are not as valued as they believed, and their future within the party remains uncertain.
