Veteran musician and actress Mariam Ndagire has distanced herself from the Uganda National Musicians Federation and Eddy Kenzo’s leadership as the Presidential advisor on creatives.
Mariam Ndagire, during a TV interview, was tasked to share her opinion regarding Eddy Kenzo’s role as the federation president and his contributions to the theatre industry. In a straightforward response, she revealed that he was not their leader and was taking the theatre industry nowhere.
In the Theatre industry, Mariam Ndagire revealed that they subscribed to the Theatrical Association Uganda, an umbrella organization introduced by the late Kato Lubwama to unite thespians and facilitate collaboration.
“He (Kenzo) is not taking us anywhere as the advisor of the president on creatives. He is not our leader; we are from the theatre, and Mr. Kibukutu is our leader. TAO subscribes under the National Culture Forum, not the Federation of musicians,” she said.
Marian Ndagire further revealed that the Theatre industry was allocated a budget of 28 billion. During their meeting with the vice president of the National Culture Forum, they agreed that the funds would be accessed directly through their saccos, rather than through the federation.
