Singer Haruna Mubiru has defended himself against allegations, insisting he did not sabotage fellow musician Geoffrey Lutaaya’s political ambitions.
Geoffrey Lutaaya was eyeing the Kakuuto County, Kyotera District parliamentary seat but lost to NRM’s Ismail Lubega.
There were allegations that Haruna connived with his close friend, Hon Kasolo, to frustrate Lutaaya’s efforts to enter parliament, resulting in his defeat. He, while speaking on national TV, denied the claims, terming them as baseless and untrue.
Haruna described Lutaaya as a close family friend and revealed that he was hurt by his loss before cautioning the public to stop spreading lies about him.
I want to tell everyone not to involve me in their nonsense talk. I heard what they said, and I want them to leave me out of their mouths. I do not work in the Electoral Commission, nor do I vote from Kakuuto, he said.
While he claimed he was his friend, Haruna explained that he didn’t perform at his rallies because Lutaaya never reached out to him. He explained that when he heard the rumour, he called Lutaaya’s wife, Irene Namatovu, to ask whether she had any knowledge of it.
“I only performed for those who wanted me, not everyone. I will not call him (Lutaaya) to ask about anything because a lot is happening behind closed doors. I called Irene to ask about the rumour, but she denied it. I told Kasolo about it, and he also denied the allegations,” he said.

Haruna Mubiru made it clear that he wasn’t a supporter of the NRM party but performed for Hon. Kasolo as a friend.
“My supporting Kasolo doesn’t mean that I love what he does. I have my own reasons for loving him. I’m just his friend, and his actions are on him. I didn’t have a hand in Lutaaya’s loss. I performed for more than one candidate in different parties,” he said.
