The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development has nullified 1,237 fake land titles in a sweeping effort to clean up the land registry for Blocks 190, 193, and 530 located in Kyaggwe, Mukono Municipality.
This action comes after authorities uncovered a range of overlapping land titles, an issue stemming from colonial-era mapping that failed to align town block boundaries with the already existing mailo land system.

During a press briefing on Friday, Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba explained that the discrepancies had created loopholes for fraudsters to scam unsuspecting members of the public and financial institutions.
“To allow for proper verification, all transactions on the affected blocks were paused. We are now notifying the public that the registers for these blocks have been cleaned and reopened for business,” Nabakooba announced.
The verification process included public notices and hearings to confirm rightful landowners. Titles found to be fraudulent were invalidated and cancelled.
Mukono served as the pilot area for the exercise, which is part of the ministry’s wider initiative to build a transparent and trustworthy national land register.
Minister Nabakooba praised residents for their cooperation and patience, urging the same as similar cleanup efforts begin in other urban locations.
“Our goal is to strengthen land tenure security and ensure a professionally managed land registration system,” she added.
