Three incumbent Members of Parliament in Kigezi have lost in the NRM party primaries.
Dr Sylvia Alinaitwe Manaki, former Deputy Managing Director for the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, defeated incumbent Rukiga district woman MP, Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi, with 43,008 votes. According to results declared by Francis Mugisha, Rukiga District NRM party registrar, Kamusiime polled 12,866 votes.
Asgario Turyagyenda was announced the winner of Bukimbiri constituency in Kisoro district with 16,581 votes, defeating incumbent Eddie Kwizeera Wagahungu, who polled 13,555 votes. After the declaration of Turyagyenda, Kwizera released a statement declaring to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections, arguing that the NRM party election was marred by irregularities.
Roland Kanya was declared the winner of Bufumbira East County with 16,925 votes, defeating the incumbent Nsaba Buturo, who got 12,756 votes. Abel Bizimana, former Kisoro District LC5 Chairman, got 588 votes.
In Rukungiri Municipality, retired General Henry Tumukunde was declared winner with 4,517 votes, defeating the incumbent Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, who garnered 2,843 votes, according to Rukungiri NRM District Elections Officer, Bright Mwongyera.
Enid Origumisiriza defeated the Kabale district incumbent woman MP, Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira.
In Rubanda West County, Rubanda district, Bruce Balaba Kabasa, a former Makerere University member of the University Appointment Committee, polled 26,302 and defeated the incumbent Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera, who garnered 24576 (48.09%
Other candidates: Gracious Tukacungurwa got 165 votes, while Oscar Nkotanyi got 51 votes.
In Rubanda district, Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, Minister of State for Finance, retained the seat for Rubanda East constituency after garnering 22,538, according to Aggrey Monday, Rubanda district NRM registrar. Musasizi’s closest contender and pioneer, Rubanda District LC5 Chairman Kenneth Jogo Biryabarema, polled 18,832 votes
Parliamentary Commissioner Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira Begumisa retained the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag as the Rubanda district Woman Member of Parliament.
Akampurira was declared the winner with 52,693 votes. Akampirira’s closest contender, Jacqueline Katabazi, garnered 24,559 votes.
Grace Akifeza Ngabirano also retained the flag for Kisoro District woman MP with 74,252 votes, according to Tadeo Mujyambere, Kisoro District Returning Officer. Akifeza’s only contender, Irene Mahirwe, garnered 42,223 votes.
