Four Arrested in Nalubwama Death Probe, Clinic Owner Accused of Withholding Patient Over Unpaid Bill

Date:

The Uganda Police has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the unfortunate death of Carol Nalubwama.

The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed before the press that they were trying to discover the circumstances surrounding the death of the 25-year-old that happened at Kiruddu Hospital. According to reports, the incident was reported on the 27th, almost a week after it happened.

According to the police report, preliminary findings indicate that the incident happened on the 22nd, and instead of a major hospital, they took the victim to a nursing home called Mabirizi.

These, according to ASP Luke, do not have the expertise to operate or even to offer professional medical services. He believes they were trying to conceal the facts about the incident from the police.

As the investigations intensified, ASP Luke confirmed the arrest of four, including the clinic owner, Nambalirwa Joyce Irene. She is accused of forcefully holding Carol from going to Kiruddu together with the caregiver’s laptop because of the failure to pay the clinic bill, which they said was too high to clear at that time. Despite her bad condition, Nambalirwa had only agreed to release her after the bill was fully settled.

This is a case of carelessness, and we shall follow it up with the Health officials responsible for licenses to determine whether the clinic is licensed. They will investigate whether Nambalirwa’s actions were professional. If you are a health worker, you do not deny the patient treatment when you see they are about to die. After they finally agreed after a long time, they took her to Kiruddu, but she unfortunately died. We believe that the long period they spent holding onto her caused her death. For a burn victim, the best treatment is at Kiruddu.
