Former MP Candidate Nina Roz Warns Youths Against Politics After Traumatic Election Experience

Date:

Musician and former parliamentary candidate Nina Roz has advised Ugandan youth not to engage in local politics, describing it as deadly.

Nina Roz, real name Nina Kukunda, was invited to the Uganda Law Society press conference and, in a heartfelt speech, cautioned young people to think carefully before participating in the dangerous game of politics.

The singer was selected by the National Unity Platform (NUP) to represent Sembabule District as the woman Member of Parliament, but lost to Nambazira Florence, an NRM candidate. She confessed that she faced the highest form of intimidation and violence, one of the most traumatic experiences she has ever faced.

“What I witnessed was not an election but war. My agents were beaten, and some are missing. It was my first time in this, and to be honest, I wouldn’t advise any youth to engage in politics in Uganda because I have personally experienced that it is indeed a dirty game. Politics is so sad and scary,” she said.

Nina Roz explained to the group of lawyers in the room the risks young people face when they take part in political activities.

She revealed that the government couldn’t give them a chance to represent their communities, and the outcome wasn’t worth the effort. She called upon the lawyers to stand up for some of her agents, who she said were still behind bars.
