Former Koboko Representative In Parliament Margaret Baba Diri Dies

Former Woman MP for Koboko, Margaret Baba Diri has passed on. The news of her death was announced on Thursday in Parliament by James Boliba Baba, the MP for Koboko County.

While the exact cause of her death remains unclear, reports indicate that she died while being transported to hospital.

Born on June 29, 1954, Baba Diri was first elected to the Ugandan Parliament in 1996 as a representative for people with disabilities.

She also served as the Woman MP for Koboko. She lost her seat in 2021 to Dr Sharifa Aate, the granddaughter of former President Idi Amin. Before entering politics, she worked as a teacher at St. Charles Lwanga in Koboko from 1976 to 1990.

Additionally, she served as a gender development officer at the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) from 1992 to 1996.

Diri earned a Diploma in Education from the National Teachers College Kyambogo and a Bachelor’s degree in Adult and Community Education from Kyambogo University.
