Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Reaffirms Uganda’s Commitment to BRICS at Ministerial Meeting in Brazil

Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered remarks at the BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs Meeting held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 27th to 29th April 2025.

In his address, Hon. Odongo conveyed warm greetings from H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and reaffirmed Uganda’s appreciation for the invitation to join BRICS as a Partner State.

He expressed Uganda’s pride in attending its first BRICS meeting, emphasizing the country’s readiness to contribute meaningfully to the bloc.

The Minister highlighted the growing relevance of BRICS amid global socio-economic and political shifts, especially for the Global South.

He applauded the founding BRICS members for their foresight and inclusive approach, welcoming the framework’s expansion.

Hon. Odongo reiterated Uganda’s commitment to upholding BRICS ideals and actively participating in its programs.

He also expressed Uganda’s aspiration to become a full BRICS member in the near future and extended sincere gratitude to the Government of Brazil for the warm hospitality and seamless organization of the meeting.
