Fik Gaza defends switch to NRM, Support My Music, Not My Politics

Date:

Musician Fik Gaza has spoken out amidst the heated backlash on social media following his recent switch from NUP to the NRM party.

During a phone interview, Fik Gaza expressed his disappointment in critics crucifying him for his actions. He claimed that the criticism came from artists who support different political parties and was intended to create divisions rather than promote unity.

We are all human, and people should stop minding about which parties we support at the end of the day.  The people created all those differences to turn us against each other. In developed countries, we are all supposed to be united, he said.

The unbothered Fik Gaza called upon his fans to remain loyal to the political parties they believe in and not follow his decisions. He advised them to support him for his music, separating it from his political beliefs.

Just stay where you are and do not follow me, because I’m not contesting. I’m not a politician looking for votes. I just need fans who will support my music, as I will not be involved in politics. That side should be kept separate from my music, he said.

Fik Gaza has always been identified as a member of NUP and a close ally to the party president, Bobi Wine. Two days ago, however, he was filmed moving around with the Fountain of Honor, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, all dressed in a yellow T-shirt. The moments were captured on camera, causing an uproar on social media, especially after he had pledged his allegiance to the ‘struggle’.

When asked what he discussed with the president during their meeting, Fik Gaza revealed he only asked him to speak to the security operatives to stop arresting the youths in the ghetto.

I asked him to first let me be in the ghetto and smoke my things. I didn’t ask for copyright like the rest because the bigger artists like Eddy Kenzo and Bobi Wine himself tried but failed to get it. How about me? I just asked him to let me chill in peace without being arrested by the police, he said.
