FDC Candidate Nandala Decries Poor Roads, Vows Economic Change in Eastern Uganda

Date:

BULAMBULI — Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi decried the “sorry state” of roads in the Sebei and Bugisu sub-regions Tuesday, telling supporters the poor infrastructure has trapped farmers in poverty.

Nandala addressed the issue during campaign rallies in Kapchorwa and Bulambuli districts, pledging to prioritize the region’s development.

“I am your own and I am carrying the flag for all the people living on the slopes of Mt. Elgon,” Nandala said. “We must fight to redeem our region so that we can fix the challenge of poor roads and also the economy, so as to put money in your pockets.”

He also criticized local health centers, citing persistent drug shortages and absenteeism among health workers. “The health centres are in a sorry state with poorly motivated health workers. Our people have no access to proper medical care,” he said.

On his economic agenda, Nandala promised to capitalize small businesses and grant them tax exemptions until they are established. He further vowed to scrap the current Parish Development Model, replacing it with a plan to provide 100 million shillings to each village for economic projects.

FDC party treasurer Geoffrey Ekanya said their manifesto focuses on tackling poverty, corruption and lack of basic services.

The pledges resonated with some residents. Job Wanyoro from Bulambuli cited ongoing landslides as a major concern, lamenting that many victims from November landslides have not been compensated.

“The management of disasters still remains a big concern,” Wanyoro said.
