The Ministry of Works and Transport is in the final stages of upgrading the Kayunga–Bbaale–Galiraya Road plus the Ferry Landing Site.
Upgrading this corridor to bituminous (tarmac) standard will reduce travel time, boost trade, enhance agricultural and fisheries value chains, and promote regional integration through multi-modal transport.
This was revealed by the Ministry in a press statement today, Friday, 11th July, 2025 in an X-Post.
The Ministry says the road which is currently existing as a gravel road is a critical transport corridor in Central Uganda.
The road provides the only direct access between Kayunga town and Galiraya, located on the shores of Lake Kyoga.
The road is a strategic gateway connecting Central Uganda to Northern and North-Eastern region via ferry across Lake Kyoga.
