In a dramatic political move, former Kawempe South Member of Parliament (MP) Mubarak Munyagwa has officially launched the Common Man’s Party with a clear and controversial mission: to counter Bobi Wine and his supporters by using the very insults and vulgar language they have used to attack Uganda’s leaders.
Munyagwa’s statement came during his swearing-in ceremony as the party president on July 16, 2025, at Jacaranda Gardens in Rubaga, Kampala.
Munyagwa accused Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), of repeatedly disrespecting Uganda’s culture, the First Family, and high-ranking officials, including the Kabaka of Buganda, Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga, and government leaders, through crude and offensive language.
He expressed that Ugandans had long suffered in silence while Bobi Wine and his supporters launched verbal assaults on respected figures. But now, Munyagwa declared, it is time for retaliation.
“The time for silence is over. Bobi Wine and his people have insulted everyone, and now we will use the same tactics to make them feel the heat,” while unveiling his strategy to take on Bobi Wine’s NUP with a wave of insults,” Munyagwa declared.
Munyagwa revealed that his party would deploy “trained insult squads” across Uganda from the constituency level all the way down to the villages to target and attack NUP supporters and Bobi Wine personally, with the same vulgar language his team has been accused of using. This will continue unabated until the 2026 elections, he vowed.
“Insulting others is not part of our culture, but this time, Bobi Wine will feel it,” Munyagwa warned.
The creation of the Common Man’s Party comes as a direct challenge to Bobi Wine’s growing influence in Ugandan politics.
Munyagwa’s move is seen by many as a strategic effort to fight fire with fire and turn Bobi Wine’s own tactics against him, exposing what some see as the opposition leader’s hypocrisy.
Munyagwa accused Bobi Wine of portraying himself as a man of the people while his supporters engage in divisive and offensive rhetoric.
“This is not just politics; it’s about respect for our culture and leadership. Bobi Wine’s insults against our leaders and the First Family have crossed the line. As president of the Common Man’s Party, I’m warning him get ready for what’s coming,” Munyagwa said confidently.
