Ex-comedian Sammy Okanya of Da Mighty Family has sparked controversy and criticism on social media following his new pastoral calling.
Sammy announced that he had just become born again not long ago and immediately became a pastor. When asked how he got the calling, the ex-comedian revealed that God visited him directly while he was still in jail.
He revealed that initially, he lived an unpleasant life that involved getting drunk, being financed by sugar mummies, and sleeping with random girls from bars. With this, he says, God looked for a way to visit his life and used prison to get his attention.
“God visited me directly. Whereas I was in a physical jail, I was able to get out as Joseph in the Bible did. I may not necessarily say that I was in prison, but God took me to a place where he wanted to talk to me. He had wanted to speak to me before but found me drunk sometimes, maybe carrying a random girl from the bar,” he revealed during a TV interview.
Sammy stressed that he had abandoned his comedy career for some time now and was concentrating solely on spreading the word of God. While many people may not take him seriously and still view him in his old career, he insists that he will not try to convince anyone to believe him, as he was fulfilling his calling.
“I will not convince anyone because I’m not looking at human beings. I’m focused on God, and I want him to use me in the best way he can. I’m a living testimony. I have always been a person, but I hadn’t discovered myself yet,” he said.
