“Even If I Don’t Get Your Ticket, I Will Still Win” – Ssegona Warns Bobi Wine Over Mpuuga Attacks

Date:

The internal cracks in the National Unity Platform (NUP) continue to widen after Busiro East Member of Parliament, Medard Lubega Ssegona, publicly warned party president Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) to stop attacking his longtime friend Mathias Mpuuga.

Speaking during an interview at BBS Telefayina, Ssegona didn’t hold back. He directly accused Bobi Wine of turning the party into a platform for personal grudges, especially after the NUP leader criticized Mpuuga in Canada, calling him a thief over the controversial Shs 500 million “service award.”

“Even if I don’t get your ticket, I will still win my constituency,” Ssegona boldly told Bobi Wine. “But you cannot control who I choose as a friend.

Mpuuga has been my friend for years long before I even met this musician or comedian called Bobi Wine.”

Mpuuga, the MP for Nyendo–Mukungwe, has been under heavy fire from NUP supporters and Bobi Wine loyalists for allegedly receiving a Shs 500 million payout during his time as Leader of Opposition.

But Ssegona insists that Mpuuga has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing and deserves due process—not online abuse.

“Unless there’s a fair and open investigation that proves him guilty, I will not join a mob to destroy Mpuuga’s name,” Ssegona said.

He went on to criticize the way Bobi Wine and his online followers have turned NUP into a place of fear, where independent thinking is punished and loyalty is measured by blind praise.

Ssegona also revealed shocking claims from Bobi Wine’s recent trip to Canada, where he allegedly told Canada supporters he would not give him the party ticket for 2026 simply because of his continued friendship with Mpuuga.

“That kind of childish behavior is dangerous,” Ssegona added. “You cannot stand in Canada and try to humiliate me for who I associate with. If this is the leadership we have, then NUP is on a dangerous path.”

He said Bobi Wine has even declared the NUP ticket for Busiro East to singer Sir Mathias Walukagga, despite Ssegona being a founding member of the party and a senior legislator.

“We Helped You, Don’t Forget That” – Ssegona’s Final Warning

In a final and chilling warning to Bobi Wine, Ssegona reminded him of the support and protection he received from fellow politicians when he was still new in Parliament.

“Let this Canada drama be the last time you talk about me and Mpuuga. We’ve covered your mistakes for years. Don’t force us to expose what we protected,” he said.

Ssegona accused Bobi Wine of turning the party into a dictatorship, where no one can question his decisions or speak freely without being insulted or blacklisted.

Political observers say the fallout between senior NUP figures like Ssegona and the party leadership shows serious cracks ahead of the 2026 elections.

What was once seen as a fresh hope for Uganda is now slipping into internal chaos and power struggles.

“NUP was built on promises of democracy and fairness. But now, it looks like we’re watching the rise of another dictator,” one political analyst said.
