The late Evelyn Lagu’s son, Freddie Kasavu, is facing backlash on social media following his plans to sell her mother’s house.
Freddie, while speaking in a YouTube interview, revealed that his decision was influenced by the fact that the house is located miles away from the city. As a young man trying to make ends meet, Freddie revealed that the house was too far away, which suppressed all his chances of making money in the city.
“I want to be close to town because I cannot handle staying that far. The place suited my mother well because she was capable of handling life far away. Mum was already established as an artist and knew what to do. She knew where her shows took place and the times they were scheduled. She handles staying there full-time. As a young man, it is not easy to survive in Bujuuko,” he said.
He, however, revealed that he loved the house because of how hard his mother had strived to build it. In one of her interviews earlier, Evelyn Lagu, who was on her sickbed, explained to journalists how badly she wanted her house to be in her son’s name.
The only hindrance was that he was not of age and never had an official identification card at that time, but the law was handling the process.

She revealed to the press that her house meant a lot to her. She described it as her only legacy to her son and a starting point for him, as she didn’t have any other children.
In September 2023, Evelyn Lagu was pronounced dead after a long battle with kidney failure, leaving behind the 20-year-old Freddie. Her untimely death saw her son go through life challenges, which forced him to abuse drugs to cope.
Late last year, Freddie checked out of rehabilitation, where he had been admitted over mental health issues. He confessed that he suffered from schizoaffective disorder, a mental condition he was diagnosed with long before his mother died.
