Eurogold Director Benard Feni signs MOU with artisanal miners to refine gold, ensuring fair value and strengthening the Ugandan shilling via exports

KAMPALA, Uganda — Eurogold and the Mubende United Artisanal Miners, or MUAM, have formalized a strategic partnership to refine locally sourced gold to 99.9 percent purity (24-carat), a move intended to enhance value addition and strengthen Uganda’s position in the global gold market.

The Memorandum of Understanding, or MOU, was signed Nov. 3, 2025, at Eurogold’s head office in Kampala. The agreement is a significant step toward developing a more inclusive, transparent and sustainable gold industry in Uganda, directly supporting the nation’s long-term development framework, Vision 2040.

Eurogold Director Benard Feni, commonly known as Mr. Ben, said the initiative aims to empower local miners by ensuring they receive fair value for their product. Under the terms of the agreement, Eurogold will purchase gold directly from the Mubende miners and refine it to meet the high-quality standards required for international trading.

Gold is one of Uganda’s top export commodities. This collaboration, by promoting responsible mining and refining practices, is expected to contribute to economic growth, increase foreign exchange earnings and enhance the stability of the Ugandan shilling.

Representatives from both Eurogold and MUAM said the collaboration will strengthen relations, promote ethical sourcing and drive long-term prosperity within the mining communities. The partnership symbolizes a new era for Uganda’s gold industry, prioritizing partnership, sustainability and value addition to advance national development goals.
