The Entebbe based local journalist, George William Kakooza Musisi, has picked nomination forms from National unity platform Headquarters in Makerere/Kavule zone and vowed to dethrone the incumbent Katabi Town Council Mayor Ronald Kalema Basamuleke.
Kakooza, who was accompanied by fellow NUP supporters picked nomination forms on June 20,2025, and said that it’s the first step of his political journey towards achieving his political ambition.
He said very soon after meeting his supporters he will return the fully signed nomination forms to the party headquarters and then will wait for his party to hand him the party flag.
Kakooza scoffed at his political foes who thought he is a mere joker adding that he is determined to lead the people of Katabi Town Council come 2026.
A source close to Mayor Ronald Kalema told us that he plans to meet Kakooza to convince him to pull out of the mayoral race since he is a big threat to him.
On February 28, 2025, NUP village chairpersons met at Tripple S Gardens in Kawafu zone, Katabi Town Council, and a total of 15 out of 23 party village chairpersons unanimously agreed to back Journalist George William Kakooza Musisi in the 2026 mayoral elections.
The LC1 Chairpersons argued that Journalist Kakooza is easy to market among the electorate because of the distinguished coverage he has rendered to the people of Katabi Town Council.
They said in the last mayoral elections, they supported the incumbent mayor Ronald Kalema but ever since he was elected in office, he has never thanked them and that it’s now high time he packed his belongings and vacated office. They said they are determined to vote him out of office and also warned journalist Kakooza against behaving in the same way once elected mayor for Katabi Town Council.
They accuse mayor Kalema of allegedly engaging in dirty deals citing the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Kampala Capital City Authority to dump garbage at Nkumba dumpsite following the Kitezi landfill tragedy. They assert that the garbage poses health hazards to locals residing near the dumpsite which in turn prompted some of them to vacate the village.
The electorate also accuse mayor Kalema of allegedly endorsing the construction of Entebbe Speke Resort yet he knew very well the contractors were dumping murrum in lake Victoria as they tried to expand the hotel.
They further accuse mayor Basamulekkere of allegedly soliciting bribes from landlords during the construction of Kitara -Gerenge road in Katabi Town Council.
During the meeting, the Busiro south NUP returning officer, Jack Wilson Kayemba revealed that so far Journalist Kakooza Musisi stood at 80 % chances to win the party ticket. He, however advised the scribe to prepare for a public debate with his fellow competitors within the party.
Kakooza is optimistic to win the 2026 Mayoral elections and he says once he wins, he will ensure effective service delivery to locals.
He revealed that he would first focus much on promoting talents through sports , empowering women and the youths by retooling them so that they become job creators rather than being job creators.
