DTB wins Sport Award of the Year at inaugural Bbankers’ Awards

Date:

Diamond Trust Bank Uganda has won the Sport Award of the Year at the inaugural annual Bankers’ Awards held in Kampala on 20 November.

The ceremony, organised by the Uganda Bankers’ Association in partnership with the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services, took place at the Mestil Hotel and recognised excellence across Uganda’s banking and financial services sector. The awards celebrated institutions and individuals who have excelled in areas such as customer service, financial inclusion, digital innovation and corporate social responsibility, including programmes focused on staff wellness and sport.

DTB Uganda has in recent years increased its investment in staff well-being. In its 2024 integrated report, the bank outlines a structured wellness programme that includes physical fitness sessions, app-based healthcare support and ongoing occupational health and safety training to maintain a safe working environment.

Speaking after receiving the award, Godfrey Sebaana, the chief executive of DTB Uganda, said the recognition affirmed the bank’s commitment to promoting staff health.

“We are immensely honoured to receive the Sport Award of the Year. At DTB, we believe the well-being of our staff is directly linked to our organisational vitality. This accolade is evidence of our proactive and institutionalised approach to ensuring our team remains healthy, motivated and high performing. We have embedded sports and fitness into the fabric of our corporate culture,” he said.

Sebaana added that the bank is exploring ways to expand its internal health and wellness programmes, including increasing participation in fitness challenges, organising more regular wellness check-ins and developing team-based sports activities.

“This recognition represents more than competitive success. It symbolises our investment in our people. A fit and healthy team is a more engaged and resilient team. This award validates our philosophy that taking care of our employees’ physical and mental health is the basis for delivering exceptional service to our customers and for driving sustainable growth in Uganda’s economy. We are proud to lead by example in the financial sector,” he said.

During the event, Sebaana also presented awards to other winners, a gesture the bank said reflected its leadership role within the sector.
