Independent parliamentary candidate Dr Ali Moses has pledged to prioritise healthcare and improve service delivery for residents of Kyadondo East if elected to Parliament.
Dr Moses made the remarks during the official launch of his campaign at Kitegomba in Nangabo, Kasangati Town Council, on Monday.
“We have come to get rid of leaders who don’t care about your healthcare services,” Dr Moses told Bbeg Media.
“Look at Kasangati Health Centre IV — there are not enough paediatricians or midwives to help our expectant mothers, and the facilities are inadequate. This cannot continue while I am your MP.”
The medic-turned-politician launched his campaign with a tour of Nangabo, Bamba, Makenke, Nabutaka, Kitagobwa, Nakanaku and Gita parishes within Kyadondo East. He said his professional background made him well-suited to champion issues affecting his community.
“Leaders of my character and calibre should be trusted and voted into leadership,” he said.
Dr Moses promised to buy a brand-new ambulance for residents using his first salary as a Member of Parliament. He also criticised Kasangati Health Centre IV for what he described as the mishandling of institutional assets, including land allegedly taken over by private projects instead of serving the public.
As founder of Capital Clinic and the soon-to-be-established Capital Mothercare, Dr Moses said he would use his salary to set up small income-generating projects to empower women and youth.
He also pledged to improve the welfare of teachers by advocating for better pay and pushing for an education policy that treats government-aided and private schools equally.
Dr Moses criticised government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), saying they had failed to lift citizens out of poverty.
“These programmes have done little to change the status quo. Many Ugandans are still languishing in poverty,” he said.
Dressed in a white shirt, red tie and blue suit, Dr Moses urged voters to elect “serious leaders” who are committed to service delivery rather than “political comedians and masqueraders.”
“We have come to push out selfish leaders because this is a liberation,” he said. “We want to return politics to the people and ensure service delivery that benefits everyone on the ground. We want a worthy MP.”
Dr Moses is contesting as an independent candidate under the symbol of a chair. He faces a crowded field that includes incumbent Muwada Nkunyingi (NUP), Maria Nassali (Democratic Party), Kasangati Town Council Mayor Tom Muwonge, Dr Sowedi Kayongo (Independent), William Magezi (Independent), Rajjab Ssozi (People’s Front for Freedom), Christopher Talemwa (NRM), and Patience Nantege (Independent), among others.
