DP’s Nassali promises effective representation during door-to-door campaign

Date:

Democratic Party parliamentary candidate for Kyadondo East, Maria Nassali Masereka, has pledged effective representation in Parliament as the 2026 general election draws closer.

Nassali, a lawyer and law lecturer at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, made the pledge during her door-to-door campaign across Kasangati Town, Wampeewo, Luteete, Gayaza Town, Kabuubu, Bulamu and Manyangwa.

She told Bbeg Media that her legal background positions her to play an active role in lawmaking.

“I want to thank all my supporters, including the youth, women, the elderly and the business community. Parliament is a factory for laws, and as a lawyer, I know what to do when it comes to legislation. I promise to do my best as your member of Parliament,” Nassali said.

She said her priorities include fighting land grabbing, a problem she noted has affected many residents of Kyadondo East. Nassali said she would push for wider access to land laws and land rights education to improve security of land and other property.

Nassali also criticised government taxation policies, which she described as unfriendly to small-income businesses. She said the taxes have limited business expansion, contributed to slow economic growth and worsened youth unemployment.

On education, Nassali said reforms are needed to make the sector more responsive to the job market. She proposed reducing the current three-term system to two terms, arguing that the cost of education has become too high for vulnerable families. She urged residents to support her bid so she can push for the proposed changes in Parliament.

She further faulted government for delays in completing the Kira–Matugga road project, saying the stalled works have hurt business activity and economic development. Nassali said completing the road would benefit transporters, schools, health services, shopping centres and pedestrians.

During the campaign, Nassali moved with a convoy of two vehicles and made several stopovers at Eight Miles near Wampeewo, Kasangati Market, Kasangati Town, Nine Miles, Bulamu, Gayaza Town, Kabuubu and Manyangwa. At each stop, she greeted supporters and explained why they should back her candidature on the Democratic Party ticket, whose symbol is the hoe.

She engaged residents across all age groups and social classes, a style her supporters say has helped her connect with voters. Some residents criticised incumbent MP Muwada Nkunyingi of the National Unity Platform (NUP), accusing him of failing to adequately listen to their concerns since his election in 2021.
