DP’s Nassali decides to confront NUP’s Muwada in Kyadondo East

Date:

Maria Nassali Masereka, previously a contender for the Wakiso Woman MP seat, has shifted her political ambitions to Kyadondo East, aiming to challenge the incumbent MP, Muwada Nkunyingi of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

This decision was finalized at a recent Wakiso district party meeting held at Pope Paul Memorial Centre, chaired by former Entebbe mayor and party district chairman Vincent Depaul Kayanja. Nassali, in a phone interview with Bbeg Media, explained that the move followed consultations with party officials and her family.

She apologized to supporters affected by the decision but reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for rule of law, human rights, and effective service delivery.

“I want to tell all my supporters that I will contest as MP for Kyadondo East a decission I took after consultations with my party officials and my family. I apologise to those who have been affected but I want to assure you that I will be there to fight for the rule of law and human rights,” said Nassali.

The party meeting resolved that, with no candidate yet positioned for Kyadondo East, Nassali should contest there, allowing Nakyanja Annet to pursue the Wakiso Woman MP seat unopposed. Nassali has begun consulting party leaders in Kyadondo East to strategize on delivering her message of truth and justice while uniting disgruntled party members.

As a newcomer to both the party and Kyadondo East politics, Nassali faces a formidable challenge. Her competitors include Muwada, Simon Magala (Independent), Khalid Ssimbwa (entrepreneur and businessman), Rajjab Ssozi (People’s Progressive Party), and Dr. Ali Moses, who is also vying for the NUP ticket, among others.

Kyadondo East, a historically significant constituency, has been represented by notable figures like NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda (PFF), and former FDC national chairman Sam Kalega Njuba.
