DP’s Maria Nassali urges gov’t to expand access to clean water

Date:

Maria Nassali Masereka, a Democratic Party aspirant for Wakiso Woman MP, has urged the government to expand water distribution in Wakiso and beyond to improve access to clean water and reduce hygiene-related diseases.

She made these remarks during a community marathon in Kyengera, organized by Nsangi subcounty youths. Nassali said the challenge of limited clean water access in Wakiso hinders development projects.

“As we run this marathon aimed at enabling access to clean water for our people, I call upon government through the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to widen its water distribution within our district and beyond. This will help our people to fight diseases that come as a result of poor hygiene,” she said.

The marathon, supported by Al-Mustapha University, aligned with their mission to promote health education and corporate social responsibility.

The university awarded 10 bursaries to marathon winners for courses like Education, Business Administration, IT, and vocational studies.

Local leaders, including Godfrey Sebunya from Nsangi, praised the initiative, noting its alignment with Buganda’s efforts to uplift communities.

Emmanuel Mabirizi, one of the organisers of the marathon said stated the proceeds would fund well construction in multiple areas, including Kyengera, Buddo, Katereke, Nbingo, Sabagabo, Kitemu, Maya, Katulaga, Kikajjo, Kasengejje, Nsangi, and Nanziga, to enhance clean water access.
