Dr. Michael Lulume Bayigga, the Member of Parliament for Buikwe South and a prominent figure in the Democratic Party (DP), has officially crossed over to the newly formed People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).
His decision comes in the wake of escalating tensions and a failed bid to unseat DP president-general Norbert Mao during the party’s recent National Convention in Mbarara—a contest that ended in disarray and deepened internal divisions.

Bayigga, who has made multiple attempts to lead Uganda’s oldest political party, now shifts his allegiance to the emerging PFF movement, a move seen as both symbolic and strategic ahead of its inaugural delegates’ conference scheduled for tomorrow.
Final confirmation of his defection is expected shortly after a high-level meeting with the PFF’s interim leadership, signaling a potential turning point in the opposition’s political realignments.
