Don Chris on wanted over Ugx 500m abroad job scam

City socialite and businessman Don Chris is officially wanted over a big scam that saw a number of Ugandans losing millions of money in his hands.

Don Chris, whose real name is Asiimwe Christian, has for a long time lived a lavish lifestyle and was a familiar figure at various hangout places. Different musicians and entertainers often sought his sponsorship for their events through his company, Skypins Tours and Travels.

The travel company, which recently officially launched its offices in Entebbe, consistently placed advertisements in trusted media outlets highlighting how it helped job seekers secure well-paying jobs in countries such as Luxembourg, the UK, Dubai, Qatar, and Canada, among others.

They are, however, under investigation for fraud after a number of desperate Ugandans came forward to claim that they paid their money but didn’t receive the jobs they were promised.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Onyango Patrick, while addressing the media, confirmed the official manhunt for Don Chris, who he says is on the run.

After involving the Ministry of Labour, Onyango revealed that Skypins didn’t have any running contract to give Ugandans jobs abroad.

The fraud cases date back to 2022, and SP Onyango noted that the victims paid varying amounts of money, ranging from 3 to 10 million shillings. It is believed that Don Chris defrauded the victims of over 500 million shillings in total.

“When the people asked him for a refund, he started threatening them instead of giving them answers. He told them that he had powerful people behind him in the government and had security backing. All this was to threaten them,” he said.

Don Chris, on the other hand, appeared on a TikTok live broadcast and announced that he had officially closed down Skypins until further notice, following reports to the authorities.

He insulted his victims for choosing to run to the media instead of waiting for him to reimburse them, as he had promised. He admitted to taking their money but swore that he would never compensate them.
