DJ and media personality DJ Roja has addressed the current state of the local music industry, stating that it is in a downward spiral due to a lack of showbiz.
Taking to his X, DJ Roja noted that while the industry was filled with too much fresh talent and sounds that keep coming up all the time, something was missing: showbiz.
According to the NBS TV host, the competitive spirit that once moved the industry and kept music lovers on tension had died down, bringing down the excitement.
DJ Roja specifically pointed out the intense rivalism between the industry’s big three Bobi Wine, Bebe Cool, and Jose Chameleone that became a hot topic in the early 2000s. This not only inspired a lot of good music but also kept everyone on their toes.
He further noted that events that recently reignited such excitement included the tension between Cindy and Sheebah Karungi, which inspired a music battle.
He, however, emphasized that he was not promoting hatred or violence but healthy beef, which would not make artists too comfortable in their current positions.

“Ugandan music right now is flooded with talent but missing real showbiz. We are bored. Need more healthy artist beefs like the ones Bobi Wine, Chameleone, and Bebe Cool used to have… We saw Cindy and Sheeba do it. Competition grows the industry,” he said.
“What were Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy doing the last 6/7 years, Drake, Kendrick? I didn’t even say beef; I said healthy competition. where you go to the studio knowing someone else is also in the studio fighting for the same spot and battling for supremacy,” he added.
