“Divorce Is Worse Than Death” – Mami Deb Opens Up About the Shame After Her First Divorce

Date:

Businesswoman and reality TV star Mami Deb has opened up about the shame she endured during her divorce.

Mami Deb, while appearing on Diaspora Connect YouTube channel, revealed it was the most challenging part of her life. She revealed that her marriage not only came to an end, but she had to deal with the aftermath, blaming humiliation and unwanted attention for taking a toll on her life.

“Divorce is worse than death. I want to tell everyone currently going through it right now and thinking you won’t feel anything, trust me, you will. The pain, you will feel that you can’t survive the pain. There is also shame. I felt so embarrassed. There is something about divorce that makes you feel like a failure. At least a business fails, because then you know God can restore; the shame that comes with divorce is worse. At this moment, there is a lot that people cannot understand, and you can’t explain yourself; instead, you feel the shame,” Mami Deb said.

Being a staunch SDA believer, she could attend church with her ex, and for their wedding, church members came through and fundraised to help them have a good day.

Close to 40 people from the church traveled to Africa just to attend their wedding, and she felt that she had disappointed them when she left her marriage, which forced her out of the church.

“They traveled to Uganda for the first time and booked hotels; how then were you going to tell them that you were done? The shame! I couldn’t step into the church. Mummy used to tell me that people understood what I was going through and they loved me, but I didn’t listen to it all, “she said.

Later, when pregnant, Mami Deb revealed she chose to focus on earning money and traveled to the countryside to work as a supportive healthcare person at a hospice.

When asked about what caused the divorce, Mami Deb remained tight-lipped, saying she didn’t want to address that chapter of her life now that they were both married to other people. She, however, ruled out allegations of infidelity but affirmed that he was just not the man for her.

“There are things I went through, and in my life, I never thought I would withstand them. He is not a bad person, but he was not the man for me,” Mami Deb said

Mami Deb is currently happily married to Michael, and together they have built a thriving empire, proof that true love will always find you.
