Ditch the opposition, embrace NRM, Museveni tells Wakiso

Date:

President Museveni  yesterday asked residents in Wakiso to ditch the opposition and vote for the NRM in the coming elections if they want better services.

Speaking at a rally in Nabweru, Nansana Municipality, as part of his Parish Development Model (PDM) assessment tour, Museveni highlighted the importance of electing MPs who prioritize local needs.

“In the coming general election, please elect members of parliament who demand what belongs to you. I am in government, but I am far from you. You need an MP who follows up on the money we send to help you,” Museveni said.

Flanked by the First Lady, Janet Museveni, the president launched the construction of the 12.7km Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri Road, a Shs 56 billion project by Chinese firm CICO, set for completion in 18 months.

He noted NRM’s infrastructure achievements, including the Northern Bypass, Entebbe Expressway, and others, but stressed that household income is key to transformation.

“When the NRM took over Kampala, these roads didn’t exist; the Northern Bypass, Entebbe Expressway, Kasangati road, and even the Matugga–Ssentema–Kapeeka Road were all built after,” Museveni said, adding, “Wealth creation is central. Every household must be involved, either as an owner of wealth or as a worker.”

Museveni addressed concerns about limited PDM funding in urban parishes, promising increased support.

“The Shs 100 million sent to each parish was only the beginning. We are going to expand the PDM and send more money, especially to urban centers where the need is higher,” he said.

The PDM aims to integrate subsistence households into the money economy by directing resources to parishes. Local leaders, including Zziwa Hamza Kyeyune and Nazziwa Faridah from the Nansana Ghetto Structure, praised the President’s financial support for 12 ghetto structures in Kampala, noting its impact on small businesses.

“We have formed the Nansana Patriotic Movement to mobilize for President Museveni and NRM candidates. We are committed to fighting tribalism and religious sectarianism,” Zziwa said.

NRM lost three parliamentary seats in Wakiso district to the National Unity Platform (NUP) in the 2021 elections (Wakiso Woman MP, Busiro South and Nansana Municipality).
