Da Agent blasts Ugandan Hip-Hop Awards for pairing him with ‘Vulgar’ rappers like Gravity Omutujju

Date:

Rapper Da Agent has called out award organizers in Uganda for placing him in the same category as rappers he believes are not upholding the same principles in their genre.

During his interview with Spark TV, Da Agent, real name Ivan Wabwire, singled out the annual HipHop Awards that recently put him in the ‘Central Uganda artist of the year’ category with Gravity Omutujju.

Da Agent further expressed his disappointment towards Gravity, whom he referred to as ‘Rapper Ayi Ayi’ for using vulgar language in all his songs. He noted that the quality of his music was not comparable to Gravity’s songs and didn’t deserve to be in the same bracket.

“What disappointed me was finding myself in the same category with obscene artists. With the talent I possess, how can you place me in the same category as those vulgar people? Just think about it; with all the quality music I have released, the masterclasses I have taught the people, how can you fix me with someone who still hires people to write his lyrics,” he said.

Da Agent also advised fellow rappers to focus on the quality of the music they release, as vulgar music kills the credibility of the genre and paints a bad image to the people looking out to them. He further stressed that the genre is vast and diverse, and it was up to the rappers to explore it more.

“Let us stop the vulgar language because we are old. People look unto us; we are the pillars of the industry. You might think it is trendy but it is watering down the genre because of the many people looking at you. How can you make someone love hip-hop, yet you keep singing trash?” he said.
