Construction for Uganda’s tallest building Diamond Tower slated to begin in 2026

Date:

The Diamond Tower is a proposed 220-meter skyscraper in Kampala’s Kololo neighborhood, designed by Angiletti Design Studio to be the tallest building in Uganda. Scheduled for a 2026 construction start, the 54-story vertical development features 300 serviced apartments, a luxury hotel, and high-performance UV-resistant glazing.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Architects have unveiled plans for a 220-meter skyscraper in the Kololo neighborhood that would become the tallest building in Uganda upon its projected completion.

The 54-story Diamond Tower, designed by Angiletti Design Studio, is slated to begin construction in 2026. The project has been submitted for approval to the National Environmental Management Authority and the Kampala Capital City Authority.

Located at the intersection of Lugogo Bypass and Nviri Lane, the mixed-use development will house 300 serviced apartments, 203 hotel rooms, and eight penthouses. The plans also specify a health club, conference facilities, and two levels of underground parking.

Project manager Adam Jumba said the tower’s height and density are a response to Kampala’s rapid urbanization. With a current population density of approximately 25,568 people per square kilometer, firm researchers expect that figure to nearly triple by 2061. Jumba noted that the project aims to model a vertical housing typology to mitigate the growth of informal settlements as the city expands.

The structure features an abstract diamond-shaped floor plan, a nod to the geometry of the building site. Technical specifications for the tower include multilayered glazing designed to block 99 percent of UV rays to maintain thermal comfort for residents.

If completed as planned, the tower will significantly alter the capital’s skyline, which has seen increased high-rise development over the last decade.
