Chaos in Nakawa East as aspirant’s name misses in register

Date:

In Nakawa East, tempers flared after voters and an aspirant discovered their names were missing from the register.

David Kintu, who is contesting against former Minister Fredrick Ruhindi, was shocked to discover his name missing from the register at Kintintale Zone 11 polling station.

Kintu claimed that the removal of his name and those of his supporters from the register was an orchestrated plan. His supporters were also affected, leading to heightened tensions. Similar issues were reported in other areas, such as delays in voting materials, frustrating voters in Nakawa East.

The situation escalated when Kintu urged his supporters to vacate the polling station, insulting electoral officials and security personnel.

“I’m shocked to have been nominated by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM election commission chairperson, only to find my name missing from the register. How can I be nominated as a registered NRM member if my details don’t appear on the register?” Kintu exclaimed. “This is a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise me and my supporters. We’ve faced similar issues in multiple polling stations, where my supporters are being turned away. Kintu said”

Victor Bwire, an NRM supporter who had come to vote only to find his name missing, said many registered voters had been turned away from the polling stations.

Meanwhile, Edwin Benesa, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Nakawa Division, reported that violent incidents had erupted in areas such as Banda, Kyambogo, and Kitintale, largely due to missing names.
