Chaos as NRM Registrar vanishes with results

Date:

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries for Busiro South and the Wakiso District Woman MP have been thrown into chaos after the Kasanje Sub-County registrar disappeared with critical election results, delaying the announcement of the party’s flag bearers.

The incident has heightened tensions in Wakiso District as the NRM struggles to finalise its candidate lineup for the 2026 general elections.

Shaban Kawooya, the NRM Returning Officer for Wakiso, reported that the tallying process for Busiro South and the Woman MP contests remains incomplete due to missing results from Kasanje Sub-County. He added that they had only received declaration forms from six out of the 30 villages in Kasanje.

Kawooya added that they are actively searching for the registrar while consulting the NRM national secretariat on the way forward.

The absence of these results has left both races in limbo, frustrating candidates and supporters. The Wakiso Woman MP race features a heated contest among candidates, including Kayesu Beth, Rose Kirabira (former Deputy RDC for Entebbe and Kampala, later RDC for Wakiso and Masindi before resigning), and Namakura Radhiyah.

Elsewhere in Wakiso, other constituencies have concluded their primaries. In Nansana Municipality, Idi Buggaga Matovu won the NRM flag with 18,350 votes (76% of 24,231 total votes), defeating seven contenders: Florence Kintu the former Kalungu woman MP (2,251 votes, 9%), William Birisa (1,639 votes, 6.8%), Ali Kyagulanyi (644 votes, 2.7%), Ssekonde Achilles Fred (549 votes, 2.3%), Godet Akiiza (378 votes, 1.6%), Sulaiman Mulindwa (322 votes, 1.3%), and Balondha Ronald (68 votes, 0.3%).

In Makindye Ssabagabo, Philip Mulindwa secured a landslide victory with 11,676 votes (91% of 12,767 total votes), defeating Paul Sekiziyivu (1,091 votes, 9%). Kyadondo East saw Christopher Talemwa win with 4,293 votes (67.2%), followed by Budala Katongole (1,871 votes, 29.3%) and Bruce Ssekamate Magala (222 votes, 3.5%).

In Kira Municipality, Daniel Kananula clinched the flag with 19,084 votes (94.82%), while Tumwebaza Edison Rwomus, who withdrew but remained on the ballot, polled 1,042 votes (5.17%).

Abdul Kiyimba won the Busiro East race with 30,810 votes (84%), defeating Andrew Kiryowa (5,693 votes, 16%). In Busiro North, Mayanja Matovu ran unopposed, and in Entebbe, Shyaka Bashaija won with 4,175 votes, followed by Scholastica Najjemba (469 votes, 11.2%) and Jovia Namaara (192 votes, 4.6%).
