Musician Chagga Geoffrey has responded to allegations that he fathered a child and neglected his fatherly duties.
The claims were brought in the media by the supposed son, Mwanje Sharif, who claimed the singer had abandoned them. Speaking to Galaxy TV viewers, Chagga denied the allegations, claiming that over the 45 years he has lived, he had never heard any woman claim to have had a child by him, except his 18-year-old daughter, with whom he stays.
“He says he is 25 and I’m 45, meaning I gave birth to him at 20 years. My daughter at home is 18 years old. But for all this time, I have never heard anyone tell me that they have my child,”
Mwanje Sharif claimed that Chagga had a performance at the Islands, where he met his mother, and he was born. Shafik claimed that Chagga gave his mother the wrong number, and every time she tried calling it, it never went through. Chagga denied the claims, stating that he had never been at the place in question and questioned how they couldn’t reach him.
“I was an artist for 20 years, but I had never performed in that area. Only went to an island about 7 years ago. I have had many shows. Managed Radio & Weasel for years, and I sang with Leone Island and Firebase; do you mean they couldn’t find me throughout all that time?

Sharif denied seeking financial assistance, saying he already had his life in order. He claimed he wanted to feel a sense of belonging on his alleged father’s side of the family. In case he denied paternity, they would go ahead and do a DNA test. Chagga agreed to conduct the test and further warned Sharif and her mother that, if the results did not match, they would cover all the costs.
“If he is not my son, they will refund everything that I have invested in this. The same thing happened when we were laying Radio to rest: someone came up, and later found out it wasn’t true. I want the DNA test to be publicized and stop such acts.”
Sharif denied Chagga’s claims that his coming out was to sabotage his concert. He promised to take the burden if the results came out otherwise. If he turned out to be his father, Sharif tasked Chagga with covering all his school fees.
