An internationally acclaimed businessman, entrepreneur, philanthropist, politician and local investor, Hon Sanjay Tanna has confirmed his interest to lead Ugandan Entrepreneurs in the NRM Party top organ, the CEC.
Tanna who had previously contested for National Vice Chairman Eastern Region in 2020, was successfully nominated at NRM Electoral Commission on Friday 4th July, 2025.
Speaking shortly after the function, Tanna told the Media that having grown up doing business in Uganda all his life, he feels he is best suited to represent the interests of Ugandan Entrepreneurs in Uganda at the Central Executive Committee of NRM.
And this is indisputable: He is the current chairman of Tan Group of Companies (family business). A conglomerate with interests in several sectors like Media, Security, Finance, Distribution of beverages & FMCG, Telecoms, Travel & Tours, Logistics, Real estate & Education.

Basing on his vast experience in managing big businesses and international connections, government appointed him Board Chairman Kilembe Mines and together with five members were sworn in on 14th September 2022. And he is bringing alive the giant in Kilemebe mines that had gone into slumber.
When it comes to international exposure, Sanjay Tanna has it all: He has severally been credited for bringing in Indian Investors to Uganda and was recently recognized and given an Award by the Association of Indian Americans in North America (AIANA).
Hon. Sanjay who had earlier been invited to attend the second edition of the Pravasi Gujarati Party that ran from 9th to 11th February, 2024 got the Award and Felicitation by the government of Gujarati in the presence of the Honorable Chief Minister.
The Award and Felicitation ceremony took place at Ahmedabad during the three day meeting that ended on Sunday, 11th February, 2024.
Hon. Sanjay was recognized for his business success, political participation of his country of birth, Uganda, generosity towards his constituents in Tororo Municipality and Humanitarian endeavors.
Born in 1973 to parents of Indian origin (Gujarati) in East Africa (3rd generation), in the Hilly Township of Fort Portal, Hon Sanjay is a Ugandan by birth and has grown up studying in Ugandan schools up to Makerere University where he attained a Diploma in Law.
He worked in the office of the President and served as private secretary to the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda. (2003-2006).
Hon Sanjay joined active politics and got Elected to Parliament of Uganda and served for 2 terms (2006-2016). The only person of Indian origin to have been re-elected to parliament for 2 consecutive terms and at the time also served at the joint EU-ACP Parliament for 2 and a half years.
Sanjay already has a feel of issues affecting Ugandan entrepreneurs. While canvassing votes for NRM’s Edmund Ariko during the Soroti City East bye-election, he was among the team tasked to handle the business community.
This team comprised of General J.J Odongo and Hon. Sanjay Tanna met the Central Market leaders, and listened to their grievances while soliciting for their support in the 28th July, 2022 Soroti City East by-election pitting NRM’s Ariko against FDC’s Attan Mose Okia.
Amongst the grievances they raised against government officials were high taxation, lack of water, high power bills and poor collection of garbage.
An accomplished businessman himself and not known to have any scandals, Sanjay Tanna brings with him integrity, tenacity, and national leadership, attributes lacking in many of his competitors for the same post.
