Hoima, Uganda – Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and National Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has inspected the Hoima City Stadium, a key venue for Uganda’s co-hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
Accompanied by State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, and the Mayor of Hoima City, Gen. Kainerugaba emphasized the importance of maintaining the stadium’s high standards. “Providing and maintaining top-tier facilities is fundamental to nurturing Ugandan athletic talent and achieving international sporting success,” he said.

The 20,000-seat multi-purpose stadium, built in 18 months, features a semi-Olympic swimming pool, modern changing rooms, and an external training pitch. An indoor arena with a 2,000-seat basketball court is also nearing completion.
The stadium’s development is a strategic investment by the Government of Uganda to boost sports infrastructure, stimulate regional development, and fulfill the nation’s commitments as an AFCON 2027 host.

Gen. Kainerugaba’s inspection underscores the government’s commitment to delivering world-class facilities for the tournament.
