Police in Bukedea Central Police Station in Bukedea District have this morning 8th, August 2025 arrested the Kolir village local council one chairperson for allegedly stealing Shs1m from a PDM beneficiary.
The local council one chairperson has been identified as John Odeke.
Odeke was accused of extorting a tune of 1,100,000/- from one PDM beneficiary, Anna Beatrice Amujal.
His arrest was directed by the office of the Resident District Commissioner Bukedea after confessing.
According to Ms Amujal, in January 2025, she registered in the PDM SACCO group but Odeke asked her to pay a sum of 100,000/- which she paid in order to enable her to benefit.
“When he asked me to pay the money, he again told me to give him my national ID and simcard which I gave him”, said Ms. Amujal.
Ms. Amujal also added that after a month, Odeke brought back her simcard claiming that the PDM process has been halted.
“This forced me to join another group but the system showed that I have already received 1,000,000/- but when I asked Odeke, he denied”, added Ms Amujal.
Hajji Arafat Oyo, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner confirmed his arrest.
He said it’s not the first time for the local council one chairperson to be accused of extorting the PDM beneficiaries.
“I received this complaints yesterday from the commercial office and when I called Odeke, he lied to me that he is in Mulago attending to a patient, but when I communicated to the complainant she said Odeke is around, so my office summoned him and he has accepted that he picked the money”, said Mr Oyo.
