The office of the district National Resistance Movement Party (NRM), Bukedea has halted joint campaign rallies for Member of Parliament as insecurity emerges.
The declaration was made by Mr. Isaac Epilo, NRM chairman Bukedea on Thursday, 10th July, 2025.
On 9th, July 2025 Wednesday, Bukedea district commenced its joint campaigns for the four duly nominated candidates in the sub counties of Malera and Kangole. However only the two candidates appeared.
Epilo said, Bukedea constituency has got four candidates vying for votes on the NRM party primaries.
“Among the four candidates, we have Mr. John Bosco Ikojo incumbent, Mr. David Beacham Okwere, Mr. Solomon Alfred Obwokor and Mr. George Stephen Ekuma, but only Mr. Okwere and Mr. Obwokor appeared for the joint rally on day one”, said Mr. Epilo.
Kabarwa Sub County as the first place on day two campaign, Mr. John Bosco Ikojo, Mr, David Beacham Okwere and Solomon Alfred Obwokor showed up.
However, Kamutur Sub County, Kolir and Aminit being the next place for rally on day two were cancelled leaving questions to the aspiring candidates.
According to Mr. Epilo, the party cancelled the rallies due to the emerging threats from some of the candidates for both the party officials and candidates.
“As a party, we have received threats of murder in Kamutur and Kolir sub county, so we couldn’t continue with the rally”, said Epilo.
He also added that the official information would be communicated to both candidates and the general public on when the rallies will resume.
Mr. David Beacham Okwere, one of the candidates told this publication that his life is in danger and the party should look into the matters of security.
“Despite the fact that we are campaigning, I am not safe, I am getting threats that they are going to undress me and pour acid in order to disorganize me from campaigns”, said Mr. Okwere.
Mr. Okwere also added that much as the party has halted the rallies, no official communication has been provided by the party.
Mr. Solomon Alfred Obwokor, another candidate says his counterparts who boycotted to attend joint campaign rally on day one are threatening the lives of his supporters and they are busy at night campaigning with money.
“I am going to petition the NRM party to explain why our counterparts are out of the joint campaign yet it’s the party rule”, said Okwokor in Kabarwa.
Mr. Charles Otai, NRM registrar Bukedea said the party rules are clear and he stated that those who will be doing contrary to the party laws will be charged.
“As a party we are one family and let’s carry one peaceful campaign”, said Mr. Otai.
