Retired Brigadier, Emmanuel Rwashande, has refuted claims by his opponent in Lwemiyaga, Theodore Ssekikubo, that he does not have the minimum academic qualifications to contest for Parliament.
Under the law, A-Level or its equivalent is the minimum academic requirement for one to stand for Parliament.
Accompanied by his longtime comrade, retired Maj Gen Phinehas Katirima, and under tight security, Rwashande arrived at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission offices to submit his nomination papers.
Dressed in a dark grey suit adorned with Uganda and East African Community (EAC) pins and a yellow NRM cap, Rwashande emphasized his commitment to serve Lwemiyaga’s people rather than engage in what he called Ssekikubo’s “false propaganda.”
“We are here to serve the people of Lwemiyaga and deliver services, unlike Ssekikubo, who spends most of his time attacking and abusing President Museveni,” Rwashande stated.
Reliable sources said Rwashande had presented a certificate issued by the National Council for Higher Education, proving that he has the minimum academic qualification.
He also presented a degree certificate from Nkumba University, and other supporting documents.
Rwashande was guided by NRM registrars through additional verification desks to validate his academic records. To secure his nomination, he was seconded by Nanyunja Sarah Semusoga and Talemwa William.
Following his successful nomination by NRM Electoral Commission cairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, Rwashande addressed a media conference.
He challenged Ssekikubo’s recent statements, asserting they undermined his reputation and character.
