In a bid to unseat incumbent MP Theodore Ssekikubo, retired army officer Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande has officially launched his campaign manifesto, promising transformative leadership for Lwemiyaga County. The manifesto was unveiled during a series of consultative meetings with NRM members across Lwemiyaga, Kyeera, and Bulongo sub-counties, as Rwashande seeks the party’s ticket ahead of the July 17 primaries.

Speaking to enthusiastic supporters, Rwashande positioned himself as a practical leader ready to address the constituency’s long-standing challenges. Residents used the platform to voice frustrations over the current leadership, citing a lack of essential services such as secondary schools, healthcare facilities, clean water, electricity, and decent roads, as well as rising land grabbing.
In response, Rwashande pledged to champion improved service delivery, emphasizing education, infrastructure, health, and land rights. He criticized the incumbent for focusing more on political conflicts than on securing government support for development.
Prominent NRM figures, including Michael Nuwagira (aka Toyota), Chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), and retired military officer Phinehas Katirima, attended the event, both rallying behind Rwashande and calling out the current MP’s poor performance.
Concerns over past electoral violence were also raised, prompting Rwashande to assure residents that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) would ensure a peaceful voting process.
Due to ongoing tensions and heated exchanges between Rwashande’s and Ssekikubo’s supporters, the NRM electoral body has prohibited joint campaigns in Lwemiyaga—a restriction not applied to other regions.
With only two contenders cleared to run, the Lwemiyaga NRM flagbearer contest is set to be a highly watched race as the constituency prepares for the 2026 general elections
