BREAKING! Gov’t Announces Bi-Annual Injection for Perfect HIV Prevention

The Uganda Aids Commission, (UAC) has announced a successful test of an injection delivered six monthly that gives 100% protection to HIV Negative individuals from contracting HIV.

 

In a press statement issued on Monday, 30th June, 2025, Uganda Aids Commission says research on the use of Lenacapavir for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), “Has successfully established that this six monthly injection offers 100% protection to HIV negative individuals against acquiring HIV.”

“Uganda was one of the countries where our scientists participated in carrying out this ground breaking research,” reads UAC statement in part.

 

The drug has already been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and will be made available in Uganda after close consultations with stakeholders and compliance with minimum requirements.

The availability will be effected after the Ministry of Health gets the National Drug Authority to license the drug, update national HIV prevention guidelines to guide on the use of Lenacapavir, train health workers and incorporate it into the list of essential drugs in the country.

 

UAC also reveals that another 2 monthly effective injection called Carbotegravir has already been incorporated into the Ministry of Health HIV prevention guidelines and efforts to make it locally available are in advanced stages.
